Hello there!
Who Is ZANU PF?

The Party

The History

The Zimbabwe African National Union–Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) stands as a comprehensive political, indigenous economic emancipation, and national liberation movement—established by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans committed to defending their sovereignty at all costs. Rooted in the legacy of the liberation struggle, ZANU PF continues to champion national unity, which has fostered the enduring peace and security that Zimbabwe enjoys today—an achievement that remains elusive for many nations.

Guided by democratic African values, the Party upholds a leadership model that is accountable to its grassroots membership. This principle is reflected in its institutional practices, including the convening of District Conferences, the Annual People’s Conference, and the National People’s Congress. Through these mechanisms, ZANU PF reinforces its identity as a people-driven movement dedicated to inclusive governance, national development, and the preservation of Zimbabwe’s hard-won independence.

The War Veterans

The War Veterans League was established pursuant to a resolution adopted at a Party Conference, which called for the formal creation of a dedicated organ to represent liberation war veterans. Its national structures are currently undergoing development and institutional structuring, aimed at integrating the League into the broader Party framework and ensuring its effective participation in policy and organizational matters.

The Women’s League

The Women’s League is open to every female member of ZANU PF who has reached the age of 18, with membership facilitated through her respective Branch Executive Committee. Although it operates as an autonomous organ, the League remains firmly embedded within the broader structure of ZANU PF. Its core mandate is to advance the rights of women and eliminate barriers to their full participation and development as equal members of society. Through advocacy, leadership development, and policy engagement, the Women’s League plays a vital role in promoting gender equity and strengthening the Party’s inclusive governance agenda.

The Youth League

The Youth League forms an essential pillar of ZANU PF, dedicated to mobilizing young Zimbabweans for active participation in the nation’s political, social, cultural, and economic spheres. Its mission is to cultivate leadership, civic engagement, and national consciousness among the youth. Membership is open to all Zimbabweans aged between 15 and 35, ensuring broad inclusion and generational continuity within the Party’s structures and national development agenda.
